Iceland was truly an adventure in many ways. After arriving, we rented the Diesel Beast, a full-sized 4x4 SUV, in order to explore the island. We immediately drove north from the city of Reykjavik directly to Akureyri via the Ring Road, which literally felt like a trek through middle earth in LOTR. Upon finding the last planned fuel station closed, we were incredibly blessed to have had just enough gas to make it to the next town.
In Akureyri, we met a delightful Couch surfing host couple who provided helpful and informative context to the adventures ahead. Our goal was to explore the island over 10 days, while seeking natural hot springs and other visually stunning natural wonders along the way.
